Flinging paint onto a canvas is anything but precise so imagery is difficult to display, but the imagery of Jesus’ head bowed while wearing the crown of thorns is present. Visually, it is unlike any other painting I’ve completed to date. I combined my usual contrast layer technique and a customized, hand crafted stencil technique from a previous painting to accomplish this look. The shades of red were mixed in a bowl with my fingers and splattered onto the canvas as it sat horizontal facing up. It is intended to look like an image formed from fallen blood. The painting in total took about 2 years to plan, test, and execute.
