John the Baptist was a true wilderness man who is described in the gospels of the New Testament as preaching in the wilderness. His clothes were made of crude materials like camel’s hair and he ate wild honey and even locusts. John’s appearance, even in ancient days, would have looked wildly unkempt, but that did not stop droves of people from listening to him and following his teachings.
