Jesus is God’s only Son, part of the Trinity, the most powerful, perfect person ever in existence. He came to this world as God’s gift as a human baby in a animal stable during a terrible time in Jewish history under Herod’s rule. Jesus gave up riches and splendor to walk with us as a man and as God’s Son.

Jesus as a baby is the reason for the Christmas season – God’s gift to mankind. In this painting, he is depicted in the traditional Christmas colors of green and red as a present. He is a gift for the world that God loves.

The true sacrifice of Jesus and His Father God Himself on the day he was born over 2000 years ago was that Jesus would lay His own life down for our sins. During the process of His death, Jesus would be humiliated, ridiculed, tormented, abused, beaten, whipped, physically exposed, and slowly killed in front of crowds. Although the imagery here is green, it is the red markings that symbolize the true sacrifice of Jesus – not as a ribbon on a present, but as the cross stained blood red.

I cannot comprehend the love it took for Jesus to enter into this fallen world only to one day lay His life down after torture from the very people He is trying to save. I certainly cannot fathom a father willingly sending His Son to this. Jesus overcame death and God’s love for us is so immense that it cannot be comprehended!
